Calling on the Swamp Boys Nation!   kidspack

It’s time for #SwampBoysNation to start collecting Chef Boyardee 7.5oz cans to give to kidsPACK!

KidsPack is an “organization dedicated to feeding homeless and hungry Polk County school children by providing them a backpack of nutritious food each Friday to sustain them on weekends.” What better way to make the World a better place than to start right here at home where we have far too many hungry kids. Polk County has one of the highest homeless kids percentages in the country. For many the only meals they get are the free lunch and free breakfast at school. The weekend presents a hungry time for these kids, and Kidspack helps fill it. I’m a newly retired 30 year teacher here in Polk County and I see directly all of the good that Kidspack does for our community.

Follow the Amazon link below (or find your own for 7.5oz can of Chef Boyardee, any flavor) and order what you can to help out. You can have it shipped directly to me, see graphic below for my address. I need to have all deliveries at my house by Feb. 20 so I can load them up and deliver to the Haines City Ribs on the Ridge bbq contest. Thank you for your support!

Swamp Boys BBQ Team is excited to participate in a very worthy fundraiser for kidsPACK over the next few weeks, to help feed our local homeless and undernourished school aged children.

The problem: 1 in 5 children (20%) RIGHT HERE IN CENTRAL FLORIDA suffer daily from a severe lack of food. A free school breakfast and free lunch help during the week, but weekends and days off from school can be devastating when there is no food.

What is being done: A local non profit called kidsPACK (check out their website!) does fantastic work to fight this problem. “An everyday backpack is turned into a food transportation module stocked with nutritious, child-friendly and easy to prepare food for children to eat over the weekend and times when they are away from school. We pack non-perishable containerized items like ravioli, fruit cups, trail mix and portable snacks like granola bars and pop-tarts.”

Where you come in: The Haines City Ribs on the Ridge BBQ Contest has challenged the teams to see who can collect the most donations of cups of Chef Boyardee Ravioli. These are the main item that goes into the backpacks and there is a great need for them. So I’m calling on the Swamp Boys Nation (#swampboysnation*) to help feed these local kids in need.

What to do: The easiest way to donate is to use your Amazon Prime (free shipping) account to order a 12 pack (or more) and have it shipped to my place. I will deliver everything to the contest on Feb. 22 on behalf of the Swamp Boys Nation. Here is a link you can use to order through Amazon. If you would rather, you can make a monetary donation via PayPal and I will use that to order the cups myself. Or if you are local you can drop off your donation at SB’s HQ in Winter Haven. Or you can make a donation through PayPal below. You do NOT need a PayPal account to use this button.

Thanks so much for considering a donation to help our local kids in need.

Just over a year ago I was invited by Sterling Ball (aka Big Poppa) to become one of Big Poppa Smokers “Elite Teams”. It was an honor then and one that I am still just as proud of today. In fact even more so. You see besides having access to the best rubs and barbecue stuff on the planet, the Elite Teams get to be a part of something that is even bigger. Something that is close to Big Poppa’s heart and believe it or not, even more important than barbecue – helping children in need.

big poppa smokers logo (1)At the end of the year Big Poppa Smokers makes a minimum of a $1,000 donation to each team’s chosen children’s charity on behalf of the team. I am proud to announce that last week $1,000 (of $1,500 total) was donated to my chosen charity, kidsPACK.org. This privately funded group packs food for specially identified children to take home on the weekends, and serves as sustenance when they otherwise would have none. All right here in Polk County. And because of the donations we were able to collect earlier in the year, and the money that BPS has given, kidsPACK was able to include the school where I teach in their weekly service. I am blessed to be a part of this. A sincere thank you to Sterling and Big Poppa Smokers for making this possible. Also a sincere thank you to all of the people who answered my call for donations earlier in the year (aka Swamp Boys Nation). It is a great feeling to be associated with people who care, I love you guys.
